‘Inspiration In-Custody Helping you to move forward’

‘Inspiration In-Custody Helping you to move forward’

Date Submitted : 07/09/2016

Recently Boxed Jobs met with the project staff at 'Propects', part of the National Careers Service who are working with employers across the region (National and Local) to help ex offenders transistion into employment.

At first we were not sure how Boxed Jobs could asssit and how we could link this to our clients needs, however after an inspirational meeting there was a lot to be offered and at least provide a greater awareness of the project and how other employers could consider assisting and even recruiting an ex offender and put this in thier recrutiment advertisment, breaking down some of the barriers to employment. A number of recruiters such as Timsons already activly recruit ex offenders and Gregs have begun offering workplace experiences.

We have an exciting new initiative working with client’s in-custody throughout the South West prison estate that we would like to invite you to get involved with.

Our project is entitled ‘Inspiration In-Custody’ and we are looking for various employers and businesses to come into the Southwest prisons to talk to our customers that are due for release about their sector or business. We want to inspire our customers to look into various industries including self-employment and find a career path that will engage them on release. We feel the more sectors and businesses that they can find out about whilst in custody, the more inspiration they will have to find a job within the sector or setting up their own business upon release.

We are open to employers partaking in any careers activity – this may be presentations, interactive workshops, interview techniques, bringing in current staff to talk about experiences etc. We are very open to ideas and suggestions and can be flexible with regards to date/time as well; we feel the employer participation, whatever sector but specifically construction, logistics, hospitality or anything manual, will be key to making this project a success.

Information, Inspiration, Motivation - Work with us to help you become informed, inspired & motivated to move forward in life

We currently have 6 operational ‘Employer Engagement Pods’ in HMP Exeter, Channings Wood and Dartmoor in the South of the Southwest and Eastwood Park, Bristol and Leyhill in the North of the Southwest.

If you are able to offer us any support with this project, or have any questions, please get back in touch (07773 570598 / louise.walter@prospects.co.uk).
